Most consumers, when asked if they were willing to sacrifice power and performance for better fuel economy or lower emissions would answer with a resounding “no.”  This market dynamic presents a unique problem for the OEM, particularly in the face of constantly increasing pressure to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.  The challenge lies in finding the right combination of innovation, analysis, testing, integration and calibration that allow the manufacturer to produce a product that provides power and performance that the customer will be pleased with, while still complying with the other legislative and market requirements.

FEV’s engineers know these problems well.  Each day we directly apply our knowledge and experience to help our customers meet this challenge.  It starts with using state-of-the-art tools.  We use some of the worlds the most advanced equipment and test methods.  With multiple engineering technical centers across the globe, we also ensure that our customers receive support near their local markets.

But it’s about more than the tools.  Meeting performance targets while still satisfying all of the other requirements for fuel economy, emissions, quality and cost, also requires innovation.  Over the past three decades, FEV has become a global leader in harnessing and managing innovation.  We call it bringing innovation to the street.

Just in the past few years, FEV has innovated concepts such as:

  • Mechanically variable valvetrain mechanisms
  • Fully electromechanically variable valvetrains
  • New turbo- and supercharging systems
  • Turbocharged and naturally aspirated, direct injection gasoline engines
  • Variable compression ratio engines
  • Piezoelectrically controlled common rail fuel injection systems
  • Advance, high power density two-stroke engine
  • Mild and full hybrid vehicle concepts (electric and hydraulic)
  • And more

We also work with advanced combustion and injection systems and provide port development to improve engine breathing.  FEV engineers work continuously to reduce parasitic losses and improve the efficiencies of ancilliary drives to allow more power to get to the wheels.  We are also constantly investigating and working with stronger, lighter materials that offer potential to improve component strength while reducing vehicle or powertrain weight.  FEV was a pioneer in the development of high efficiency lubrication and cooling systems that allow operation with fewer losses and better performance.  In some cases, breakthroughs in exhaust aftertreatment technologies have become enablers to offer higher performance without penalties.

FEV has become globally known for its expertise in calibrating and homologating powertrains and vehicles.

We find ways to adapt new and existing technologies and ideas in novel ways that result in dramatic performance improvements.  In short, we know how to synergistically adapt, develop and package technologies to obtain the desired performance targets, and we can do it in most cases without sacrificing fuel economy, emissions, cost or quality.  Contact FEV to learn how we can assist you to achieve your targets.
